What past guests say
“Food really brought down my rating. I didn't realize how much I dislike buffets before going here. It was very hard to find authentic good Mexican dishes. The drinks were also very weak, there was basically no beer selection, and wine was not good. The location was beautiful and pools were awesome. The shows at night were a lot of fun with talented dancers and singers. If you don't speak Spanish you will struggle. Brush up on your ordering skills before going.”

“Mirador Buffet Job Gomez Natanahel Soto 100% Service and Attention With an excellent selection of food!!! Thank you!!! Barceló Maya and Mirador Buffet!!! 🙌🙏💖🙋🏻♀️🎉”
★★★★★
“The service from Job Gomez, Samuel Morales, and Marco Gomez at El Mirador restaurant was excellent; they were very friendly and respectful. They were very attentive to ensure we had the best possible experience. Service quality and attention: 10/10”

“Excellent service , great vibes and people at buffet mirador Herber perez”
★★★★★
“Lovely experience. Not one thing was out of place or in need of attention. We didn't encounter ANY insects except ants on the beach. The beach was VERY rocky and probably the only downside. Getting in and out was tricky. All the staff were pleasant and helpful. Buffet was good, although some nights the protein had more of one type instead of a variety. But for the most part there was always tasty beef, chicken and pork. Our king room was lovely. A little surprised at the lack of trolleys but...”

Know before you book
- Difficult to book à la carte restaurants
- Long walking distances across the property
- Long airport transfer from Cancún
- Buffet quality described as just okay by some guests
What you should know
What to Know
Come knowing you must book à la cartes through Guest Services (not self-serve), sargassum is real from spring into summer, and the on-site Vacaciones Barceló transport desk has drawn serious complaints.
high confidence
What you'll enjoy
- Free shuttle between five sister properties
- Premium Level worth considering
- Wedding coordinators responsive and organized
- Buffets bail you out if à la cartes fill up
Heads up
- À la carte booking requires in-person Guest Services visit
- Vacaciones Barceló transport desk unreliable
- Check-in slow when tour groups arrive
- No in-room TV streaming currently
WATCH OUT: Seasonal heads-up
- Sargassum seaweed can affect Riviera Maya beaches between roughly April and August
- Atlantic hurricane season runs June through November, with peak risk September–October
Cancún Airport is roughly 60–80 minutes away depending on traffic — arrange transfers in advance. The property is enormous, so request a room location near your priorities (beach, buffet, or lobby) and expect a fair amount of walking. Book à la carte restaurant reservations as early as possible, ideally at check-in. Tipping in USD is appreciated and standard for buffet servers, bartenders, and housekeeping.
Good to know
- The Palace gives you access to all five resorts in the Barceló Maya complex, multiplying your dining and entertainment options
- Beach snorkeling is exceptional — sea turtles are commonly spotted from shore
- Property is very large; mobility-limited guests should request rooms close to main areas
- À la carte reservations can be difficult to secure during peak periods
- Transfer from Cancún Airport is over an hour — Tulum airport (TQO) may be a closer alternative
