Food & drink

Strong

Dining is a genuine strength with a wide breakfast buffet, strong Italian and hibachi venues, and Shutters' Peruvian fusion pulling standout praise. Expect quality that outperforms typical all-inclusive fare, with only occasional inconsistency across bars.

Dining overview

Guests have access to ten restaurants and eight bars across Hyatt Ziva and the adjacent Hyatt Zilara. Dining options include two buffets, Italian, a Caribbean grill, Asian, French-Polynesian, Indian, Peruvian, and a steakhouse. A coffee shop and 24-hour room service are also available.

Beach

Mixed

Juanillo Beach itself is calm, shallow, and photogenic when conditions cooperate, but summer sargassum has repeatedly rendered it unusable with smell and bugs. Pools compensate, though beach-first travelers should plan around season.

Editorial beach rating

White‑sand Juanillo Beach fronting the resort, calm swimmable water; beach butlers and private section enhance comfort; occasional seaweed noted by guests.

Pools

Standout

The pool scene is the resort's ace: deeper-than-average water, a strong swim-up bar, a lively main pool with activities, and a separate water park for kids. When the beach is out, the pools genuinely carry the trip.

Editorial pool rating

Multiple infinity pools with swim‑up bars and a waterpark featuring a lazy river and slides, offering both lively and family‑focused zones.

What’s included

Strong

Priced at the upper end of Cap Cana, and most travelers feel the polish, service, and food justify it, especially at Club Level. A minority push back on the upsell pressure and call the exclusive add-ons underwhelming.

Package inclusions and upgrade access have not been collected yet. Confirm them for your room and dates when booking.

Amenities & activities

Couples

Good fit

A surprisingly strong couples pick for a family resort, thanks to access to the adjacent adults-only Zilara side and a well-run wedding and vow-renewal team. Anniversary and honeymoon stays consistently land well.

Families

Ideal

Built for multi-generational travel, with a separated water park, loved kids club, nightly outdoor movies, and enough activities to keep ages 2 through teens engaged. Parents can hand kids off and slip to the adult side.

Peace & Quiet

Strong

Daytime buzzes with pool activities and entertainment, but the property settles into a calm rhythm by 11pm and never tips into party-resort territory. One room location complained of noise from an event space above.

Highlights include a full water park, lazy river, spa with hydrotherapy circuit, fitness center, kids' club, teen activities, sailing, snorkeling, and a packed daily activity program. The property sits inside the gated Cap Cana enclave, which adds a layer of security and access to the wider Cap Cana marina and golf scene.

“A wonderful family experience! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Hyatt Ziva Cap Cana. The food, the facilities, and the staff's attention made our vacation truly special. It's an ideal place to enjoy with children and also to relax. We left with beautiful memories and a strong desire to return. Highly recommended!”

“Excellent property and they do a wonderful job all around. Brought my 2 kids and this is our second visit. Super easy, close to airport, food is good, restaurants fun and well designed, and waterpark plus kids club is tremendous value and great. Would gladly visit again as an adult and enjoy just Zilara, or as a family. Highly recommend. Only negative is poolside service and food is poor. This was the same as last time. They really need to improve this.”

“Very Disappointing Experience – Not Worth the Price We stayed at Hyatt Ziva Cap Cana for 5 days, and unfortunately, it was a very disappointing experience. For a resort costing $5,000–$6,000, we expected exceptional service and hospitality, but the experience fell far below expectations. Several things were not working properly at the restaurants and pool areas, including the fans. Whenever we asked the staff for assistance, we were repeatedly told that things were unavailable or not...”

“A beautiful, welcoming place, an unparalleled experience, good food. Some people weren't very empathetic, but these three made us feel very welcome with their attentiveness. Mr. Juan's service at the pool bar was excellent—5 stars for him! Raydel and Eugene also provided excellent service and were very attentive, always asking how we were feeling, what we needed, etc. 5 stars for them.”

WATCH OUT: Seasonal heads-up

  • Sargassum seaweed is common on Punta Cana/Cap Cana beaches roughly April through August
  • Atlantic hurricane season runs June through November, with peak risk August–October
  • Winter trade winds can make unheated pools feel cool in December–February

Swim‑up suites restricted to guests 13+, check‑in from 3 pm, it's about 15 min from PUJ airport.

Good to know

  • Part of a three-resort Hyatt complex (Ziva all-ages, Zilara adults-only, plus the newer Secrets Cap Cana) — guests can sometimes access shared venues
  • Inside the gated Cap Cana community, which is quieter and more upscale than central Punta Cana/Bávaro
  • Pools are not heated and can feel cool in winter
  • Sargassum seaweed can affect the beach, particularly April–August
  • Club-level upgrade adds a private lounge, pool and concierge but isn't necessary to enjoy the resort
  • Specialty restaurants enforce a smart-casual dress code at dinner
